BHIMA GRIEM *1987

My artistic practice emerges from concrete social situations and their internal tensions. It is not observational but involved. Everyday routines, language, and institutional structures form the starting point — contexts in which power, conformity, and exclusion are embedded. These conditions are not illustrated but exposed through subtle shifts and precise interventions.

At the center is the production of public space: who is allowed to speak, who is heard, and under what conditions. Materials, images, texts, and bodies are used to unsettle their assumed neutrality. Rather than mediation, the work seeks friction; rather than consensus, it insists on the discomfort of taking a clear stance within contradictory realities.

Art is understood here as a risky practice. It pursues proximity rather than distance and accepts ambiguity and unease as productive states. Its force lies in persistence — insisting on precision and responsibility where looking away would be easier.
